Nephila draws inspiration from the mythology of Kiribati, particularly the story of Nareau, the creator deity. Meyoko's incorporated elements from Nareau's myth, such as his transformation into a spider to weave the fabric of existence.

Additionally, Nephila features imagery inspired by the spider 'Nephila clavata', known as the fortune teller spider, symbolized by the central eye representing its all-seeing nature.
